VV Rijnsburgse Boys vs De Treffers
RIJNSBURG, Netherlands (Interstat) — A pair of second-half substitutes sparked a comeback as De Treffers rallied to earn a 2-2 draw against VV Rijnsburgse Boys in a Tweede Divisie match on Saturday.
The result at Sportpark Middelmors Veld 1 saw both teams share the points in a tightly contested league encounter, extending De Treffers’ recent unbeaten run while halting Rijnsburgse Boys’ momentum at home.
The match began at a brisk pace with the visitors striking first. De Treffers forward Ilias Kariouh opened the scoring in the 22nd minute, giving his team an early advantage. The lead was short-lived, however, as Rijnsburgse Boys responded quickly. Just four minutes later, in the 26th minute, forward Ezechiel Fiemawhle found the net to level the score.
The home side carried that momentum forward and took the lead just before halftime. Midfielder Steff van Rooijen, who would later receive a yellow card in the 89th minute, provided the assist for Willem den Dekker to score in the 43rd minute. Den Dekker’s goal sent Rijnsburgse Boys into the break with a 2-1 advantage.
De Treffers manager turned to his bench to change the game, and the move paid dividends early in the second half. Substitute Steven van der Heijden entered the fray and made an immediate impact, scoring the equalizing goal in the 53rd minute to make it 2-2. The goal solidified a key performance off the bench for the visitors.
Neither side could find a winner in the remaining 37 minutes, despite some late pressure. The draw reflected the competitive balance between the two sides, a fact underscored by their previous meeting this season, which also ended in a 1-1 stalemate back in October.
The outcome defied the pre-match projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted a 2-1 victory for VV Rijnsburgse Boys and whose ELO system gave the home side a 54 percent probability of winning.
In the broader league context, the result leaves both teams in a similar competitive position as they push for a strong finish to the season. De Treffers now holds a record of 13 wins, 7 losses and 7 draws in Tweede Divisie play, while VV Rijnsburgse Boys moves to 12 wins, 7 losses and 5 draws.
De Treffers will look to continue their solid form, which now includes just one loss in their last five league matches, when they travel to face RKAV Volendam on April 4. VV Rijnsburgse Boys, which saw a two-game winning streak snapped, has a longer break before its next contest, an away match at VV Katwijk on April 11.
The Tweede Divisie, the third tier of Dutch football, continues to provide closely fought matches as the 2025-2026 season enters its final months.
