HOEK, Netherlands (Interstat) — Substitute Quincy Veenhof scored in the 20th minute to deliver GVVV a 1-0 road victory over HSV Hoek in Tweede Divisie play Saturday at Sportpark Denoek.

The goal, assisted by Mitch Willems, secured an opening-day win for the visitors and defied pregame projections. Interstat’s game simulator had forecast a 2-1 win for HSV Hoek, whose probability to win was set at 76.9 percent.

GVVV’s defense made the lone goal stand up. The match grew chippy in the second half, with four yellow cards issued, two to GVVV players and two to HSV Hoek.

With the result, GVVV begins its league campaign with a win while HSV Hoek starts with a loss.
