Middlesbrough Edges West Brom in Season-Opening Thriller

MIDDLESBROUGH, England (Interstat) — Middlesbrough opened its English Championship season with a 3-2 victory over West Bromwich Albion on Friday at The Hawthorns.

The visitors built a two-goal lead with scores from defender Charlie Taylor in the 42nd minute and substitute Sam Silvera in the 58th. West Brom’s Isaac Price cut the deficit in the 75th, only for Middlesbrough’s Jed Wallace to answer five minutes later. Substitute Delano Burgzorg provided the decisive goal in the 90th minute for Middlesbrough.

The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, which simulated a 1-1 draw and gave Middlesbrough only a slight probability to win. The match included yellow cards for Middlesbrough’s Chris Mepham and West Brom’s Callum Styles.
