PAREPARE, Indonesia (Interstat) — Borneo opened its Liga 1 season with a 2-1 victory over PSM on Saturday at Stadion Gelora BJ Habibie.

Arfan gave the visiting side a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute, assisted by Dušan Lagator. Substitute Juan Ruiz doubled Borneo’s advantage in the 32nd, finishing a pass from Arfan. PSM pulled one back in the 78th when Koldo Obieta scored off a Komang Teguh assist.

The match turned physical with six yellow cards. PSM’s Sahrul Lasenari received a red card in the 84th minute, hindering any comeback attempt. The result defied a pregame projection of a draw, instead fulfilling statistical models that favored Borneo.
