Persijap vs PSM
JEPARA, Indonesia (Interstat) — In a result that defied both recent form and statistical projections, Persijap delivered a commanding 2-0 victory over PSM in Liga 1 Indonesia action on Saturday at Stadion Gelora Bumi Kartini.
The home side, which entered the match with just two wins in 20 league matches this season, seized control from the opening moments and never relented against a PSM squad that had been heavily favored. The victory provided a rare bright spot in a difficult campaign for Persijap, while extending a winless streak for PSM.
Persijap’s decisive performance began almost immediately. Midfielder França opened the scoring in just the fifth minute, finishing an early chance to stun the visitors and send the home supporters into a frenzy. The early goal set the tone for a match where Persijap looked the more assertive side.
The home team’s midfield and defense effectively stifled PSM’s attacks throughout the first half, limiting clear opportunities. The frustration for the visitors began to show as the match grew increasingly physical. PSM substitute Jacques Témopelé was shown a yellow card in the third minute, one of eight cautions issued by the officiating crew throughout the contest.
Persijap solidified its lead just after the hour mark. In the 62nd minute, midfielder Iker Guarrotxena found the net, doubling the advantage and effectively putting the game out of reach for PSM. The goal was the product of a cohesive team effort, with the assists on the day spread among seven different Persijap players: Tiri, Victor Luiz, Arfan, Jacques Témopelé, Muhammad Buyung Lessy, Diogo Brito and Wahyudi Hamisi.
PSM, which saw its league record fall to four wins, seven losses and seven draws, offered little in response. The defeat marks a continuation of a poor run of form; the team has now lost four of its last five Liga 1 matches, including a 2-0 defeat to Bali United on Jan. 9. The result was particularly surprising given that statistical models heavily favored PSM. Interstat’s ELO system had given PSM a 77.80 percent probability to win, while its game simulator had projected a 1-1 draw.
For Persijap, the three points improve its Liga 1 record to three wins, 12 losses and five draws. The victory snaps a three-match losing streak across all competitions and avenges a 1-1 draw with PSM in the teams’ previous meeting on Aug. 8, 2025. The clean sheet also represents a defensive milestone for a team that had conceded multiple goals in its previous three outings.
The match was marred by discipline issues, with PSM receiving five yellow cards and Persijap receiving three. The aggressive tempo persisted into stoppage time, where Persijap’ Muhammad Buyung Lessy was booked in the 96th minute.
Looking ahead, PSM will aim to rebound on Feb. 2 when it hosts Semen Padang in Liga 1 play. Persijap will seek to build on this momentum in its next fixture, a road match against Arema on the same date.
