CAEN, France (March 6, 2026) (Interstat) — Substitute Issam Bouaoune scored in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time to salvage a 2-2 draw for Caen against Berrich Chateauroux in the National 1 season opener for both clubs Friday at Stade Michel d’Ornano.

Mohamed Hafid starred for the visitors with two goals, opening the scoring in the 10th minute and restoring Chateauroux’s lead in the 74th. Caen’s Maxime Etuin had equalized at 1-1 in the 59th before Bouaoune’s dramatic late intervention. The result defied a pregame projection of a 1-1 draw by Interstat, which gave Caen a slight 52.3% probability to win. Three yellow cards were issued in the physical contest. Both teams begin the campaign with an 0-0-1 record.
