WOKING, England (Interstat) — Woking delivered a commanding performance to defeat Morecambe 5-1 in a National League match Saturday at The Laithwaite Community Stadium.

The home side overwhelmed the visitors, scoring three times before halftime. Harry Beautyman opened the scoring in the 12th minute. Defender Aaron Drewe, who also added an assist, and substitute Jack Nolan scored four minutes apart late in the half.

Oliver Sanderson scored twice in the second half, including a stoppage-time goal, and Sam Ashford also scored late. Morecambe’s lone reply came from a 77th-minute penalty by Sanderson.

The result defied a pregame projection of a 1-1 draw by Interstat, which gave Woking an 84% probability to win. Woking begins the season with a win, while Morecambe starts with a loss.
