Substitutes Spark Halifax Town, Tamworth to Season-Opening Draw

HALIFAX, England (April 6, 2026) (Interstat) — Halifax Town and visiting Tamworth opened their National League seasons with a 2-2 draw Monday at The Shay Stadium after a frantic second-half sequence.

Substitute Stefan Mols gave Tamworth a lead just 61 seconds into the match. The game erupted after halftime, with three goals in seven minutes. Jay Turner-Cooke equalized for Halifax in the 56th, followed by Will Smith putting Tamworth back ahead two minutes later. Halifax substitute Oliver Lynch leveled the score again in the 63rd.

Both teams finished with 10 men after Tamworth’s Luke Fairlamb received a stoppage-time red card following a second yellow to teammate Ben Acquaye. The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored Halifax.
