GATESHEAD, England (Interstat) — Gateshead defeated York City 3-1 on Tuesday in a National League match at Gateshead International Stadium, a result that defied heavy pregame projections favoring the visitors.

Interstat’s systems had given York City an 84.2% probability to win and projected a 1-1 draw. Instead, Gateshead secured a convincing victory.

Keaton Ward and Ashley Boatswain each scored twice for the hosts, with their goals coming in quick pairs in the 41st and 65th minutes, respectively. Louis Storey pulled one back for York City in the 85th, but Ollie Pearce sealed the win with a goal in stoppage time.

Fenton John and Josh Home each recorded two assists for Gateshead. The match featured eight yellow cards. Gateshead begins its league campaign 1-0, while York City starts 0-1.
