Preview: Glenavon Hosts Dungannon Swifts in NIR Premiership Clash

DUNGANNON, Northern Ireland (Interstat) — Glenavon will seek to break a recent hex against a surging Dungannon Swifts side when the teams meet in a Northern Irish Premiership match on Tuesday.

Kickoff is set for 7:45 p.m. local time at Mourneview Park.

The visiting Swifts (8-6-3) enter with momentum, sitting fourth in the table and riding a three-match league winning streak. Their latest result was a 1-0 victory over Bangor on Friday. Dean Shiels’ squad has shown a potent attack, scoring 11 goals in their last five league outings.

In stark contrast, Glenavon (5-9-3) has struggled for consistency and is mired in a two-game losing skid, including a 1-0 defeat to Portadown on Friday. Their position in the lower half of the table adds urgency to this fixture.

Recent history heavily favors Dungannon. The Swifts have won the last two head-to-head meetings this season, both by shutouts: 1-0 at home on Oct. 25 and 2-0 at Mourneview Park on Sept. 6. Glenavon has failed to score against Dungannon in over 270 minutes of league play dating back to last season.

“This is a mental hurdle as much as a football one,“ said Glenavon manager Stephen McDonnell. “We know their threats, but we must focus on executing our game plan and converting chances at home.“

Dungannon’s form has been built on a balanced effort, with key contributions in recent weeks from striker Kealan Dillon and midfielder Ben Gallagher. Glenavon will look to forwards Matthew Snoddy and Jack Malone to spark an offense that has been shut out in three of its last five matches.

According to Interstat’s match simulator, the predictive model favors Glenavon to reverse the trend with a 2-1 victory.

A win for Dungannon would solidify their top-four standing, while Glenavon desperately needs points to climb away from the relegation conversation.

The match is the final fixture of the calendar year for both clubs. Dungannon Swifts will visit Crusaders next on Jan. 3, while Glenavon travels to Ballymena United the same day.
