HELSINKI (Interstat) — Helsingin Pumpuu and Inter Turku played to a 1-1 draw in their Veikkausliiga season opener Sunday at Bolt Arena. The result was a surprise after statistical models heavily favored Inter Turku to win.

Inter Turku’s substitute Bart Straalman opened the scoring in the 23rd minute. Helsingin Pumpuu’s Alexander Ring answered just nine minutes later, leveling the score with a goal assisted by Teemu Pukki. Neither side could find a winner, leaving both clubs with a draw to start their campaigns in the Finnish top flight.
