Substitutes Lead Ivory Coast to Comeback Win in Africa Cup of Nations Opener

MARRAKECH, Morocco (Interstat) — Substitute Bazoumana Touré scored a stoppage-time winner as Ivory Coast rallied to defeat Gabon 3-2 in an Africa Cup of Nations group stage match Wednesday at Grand Stade de Marrakech.

Gabon led 2-1 at halftime after goals from Guélor Kanga in the 11th minute and Denis Bouanga in the 21st. Jean-Philippe Krasso, another substitute, pulled one back for Ivory Coast just before halftime.

Evann Guessand, also entering off the bench, headed in the equalizer in the 84th minute before Touré secured the dramatic victory with a header in the 91st. The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored Gabon.

Ivory Coast begins the tournament with a win, while Gabon starts with a loss.
