Senegal, DR Congo Draw in Africa Cup of Nations Group Stage Opener
TANGER, Morocco (Dec. 27, 2025) (Interstat) — Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo played to a 1-1 draw Saturday in an Africa Cup of Nations group stage match at Stade Ibn Batouta.
Substitute Cédric Bakambu opened the scoring for DR Congo in the 61st minute with a left-footed finish. Senegal responded eight minutes later as Sadio Mané equalized with a right-footed shot, assisted by midfielder Pape Guèye.
Guèye also received a yellow card in the 28th minute. The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored Senegal to win. Both teams begin their tournament campaigns with a single point.
