OITA, Japan (Interstat) — Substitute Takashi Kawano scored in the 20th minute to lift JEF United Ichihara Chiba to a 1-0 victory over Oita Trinita in a J2 League match Saturday at Crasus Dome Ōita. Kawano’s decisive finish, assisted by Atsuki Satsukawa, secured the road win for JEF United, which defied a pregame projection that favored them to win but forecast a draw. The match was a physical affair, with three yellow cards issued in the second half. The result gives JEF United a winning start to their league campaign, while Oita Trinita fell in their J2 League opener.
