RIO DE JANEIRO (Interstat) — Two struggling Brazilian sides, Sport Recife and Juventude, will seek a rare positive result when they meet Wednesday in a Carioca Série A fixture at the Ilha do Retiro stadium.

Juventude (7-14-5) enters the match in marginally better form than its host, having secured a 1-0 victory over RB Bragantino on Oct. 20. However, the club is reeling from a 2-0 home loss to Palmeiras this past Sunday. Sport Recife (2-13-6) is mired in a deeper slump, winless in its last five outings and coming off a 3-0 defeat to Flamengo on Saturday.

The head-to-head history heavily favors the visitors. In their two meetings this season, both on July 14, Juventude won 2-0 on each occasion.

Despite the lopsided recent results, a tight contest is projected. The Interstat game simulator forecasts a 1-1 draw, a result that would extend both teams’ frustrating runs. A draw would be a relatively positive outcome for last-place Sport Recife, while mid-table Juventude will be aiming for a full three points to build momentum before visiting Vasco da Gama on Saturday.

Sport Recife’s next home match is against Atletico Mineiro on Nov. 8.
