SALVADOR, Brazil (Interstat) — EC Vitoria opened its Carioca Série A campaign with a 1-0 upset victory over Internacional on Wednesday at Estádio Manoel Barradas. Defender Lucas Halter scored the game’s only goal in the 68th minute, heading in a decisive set-piece. The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored the visiting side. Internacional, which entered as a significant favorite, failed to find the net. The loss marks a disappointing start to the season for Internacional in the state competition.
