PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil (Interstat) — Carlos Vinícius scored a hat trick to power Gremio to a 3-1 victory over Juventude in a Carioca Série A match Sunday at Arena do Grêmio.

Vinícius opened the scoring in the 48th minute and added another in the 67th. Juventude’s Igor Marques pulled one back in the 79th, but Vinícius secured his triple in stoppage time to seal the win. The match was a physical affair, featuring 10 yellow cards and a red card shown to Juventude’s Marcos Paulo in the 70th minute. The result defied a pregame projection that had Gremio winning by a narrower margin.
