FORTALEZA, Brazil (Interstat) — Fortaleza opened its Carioca Série A campaign with a 1-0 upset victory over heavily favored Flamengo on Saturday at Estádio Castelão. Forward Breno scored the decisive goal in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a buildup from substitute Léo Pereira. The result defied projections, as statistical models gave Flamengo an 89 percent chance to win and predicted a draw. The loss marks a disappointing start for Flamengo in the state competition. Both teams now hold 0-0 records to begin the season.
