Bradford City vs Bolton Wanderers

BRADFORD, England (Interstat) — Johnny Kenny came off the bench to score a second-half equalizer as Bolton Wanderers salvaged a 1-1 draw with Bradford City on Saturday in League One at University of Bradford Stadium.

Kenny’s goal in the 72nd minute canceled out Kayden Jackson’s strike for Bradford City eight minutes later, leaving the two sides to share the points for the second time this season. The teams played to a scoreless draw in the reverse fixture Nov. 22.

George Johnston provided the assist for Kenny’s goal, marking a key contribution for the Bolton substitute. The match featured four yellow cards, with bookings for Bradford City’s Josh Neufville in the 15th minute and Joe Wright in the 36th, followed by cautions for Bolton’s Johnston in the 79th and Bradford City’s Chris Forino-Joseph deep into stoppage time.

The result left Bolton Wanderers with a record of 19 wins, 18 draws and eight losses in League One competition this season. Across all competitions, Bolton owns 20 victories, 18 draws and nine losses. Bradford City’s league mark improved to 20 wins, 14 draws and 13 losses, with an overall record of 23 wins, 14 draws and 14 losses.

Bradford City enjoyed the better of the early chances, creating pressure from the opening minutes. Neufville’s yellow card for a foul in midfield briefly stalled the home side’s momentum, but Wright’s caution later in the half did little to disrupt Bradford City’s rhythm. The home team held possession through the first period but could not break down a disciplined Bolton defense.

The second half saw the visitors grow into the game. Kenny, introduced from the bench, found space in the penalty area and finished past the Bradford City goalkeeper to put Bolton ahead. The goal was Kenny’s first in league play this season. Bradford City responded quickly, with Jackson leveling the score in the 80th minute after a sustained attacking move. The forward’s strike kept the home side’s unbeaten run in league matches alive.

Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages. Johnston’s yellow card for a late tackle reflected the growing tension, and Forino-Joseph received his caution for a similar offense in added time. Neither side could find a decisive goal, and the final whistle confirmed the draw.

For Bradford City, the result extended its unbeaten streak in league matches to three, following a 1-1 draw at Plymouth Argyle on April 21 and a 2-2 stalemate at Barnsley on April 18. The home side’s previous victory came on April 6 with a 2-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers. Bradford City next travels to Exeter City on May 2.

Bolton Wanderers entered the match on the back of a 3-3 home draw with Hfield Town on April 18 and a 5-1 win at Stevenage on April 14. The draw at Bradford City halted a two-game league winless run for the visitors. Bolton’s first meeting with the Bantams in November ended scoreless, and Saturday’s result continued the trend of tight contests between the two clubs. Bolton hosts Luton Town on May 2.

The two sides have now met once this season, with the draw representing the only head-to-head result. The previous encounter, also a 0-0 stalemate, took place at Bolton’s home ground.

Interstat’s game simulator had projected a final score of Bradford City 1, Bolton Wanderers 1, and its ELO system gave Bradford City a 52.90 percent probability to win before kickoff.
