Reading Routs Plymouth Argyle in League One Opener

READING, England (Interstat) — Reading opened its League One season with a commanding 4-1 victory over Plymouth Argyle at Home Park on Friday.

Substitute Lewis Wing led the way with two goals and an assist. He opened the scoring in the 18th minute, followed quickly by a Kamari Doyle strike in the 20th. Xavier Amaechi added a third in the 68th before Jack Marriott completed the rout in the 86th. Plymouth’s lone reply came from a Joe Edwards-assisted goal in the second half.

The match was marred by a red card shown to Plymouth’s Joe Ralls in the 12th minute, forcing the hosts to play a man down for nearly the entire contest. Six yellow cards were also issued. The result defied a pregame projection that favored a draw.
