SALVADOR, Brazil (Interstat) — Willian José scored in first-half stoppage time to deliver Bahia a 1-0 victory over Internacional in a Carioca Série A match Wednesday at Casa de Apostas Arena Fonte Nova. The forward’s decisive goal came in the 45th+6 minute, assisted by substitute Gabriel Mercado. The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, which had simulated a 1-1 draw. Internacional finished the match with 10 men after Alisson Rodrigues was sent off with a red card in the 72nd minute. The match was the season opener for both clubs in the Brazilian competition.
