CONCARNEAU, France (March 20, 2026) (Interstat) — Valenciennes opened its National 1 campaign with a 2-1 road victory over Concarneau on Friday at Stade Guy Piriou, overcoming pregame projections that favored the hosts.

Flavio Da Silva opened the scoring for the visitors in the 56th minute. Concarneau’s Loïck Landré equalized in the 83rd, but Valenciennes’ Stredair Appuah netted the decisive goal just four minutes later to secure the win. The result defied statistical models that gave Concarneau a nearly 60% chance to win.

Valenciennes midfielder Loïc Goujon received an early yellow card in the 30th minute. The victory gives Valenciennes a winning start in league play, while Concarneau begins its season with a defeat.
