Rouen vs Concarneau

LE PETIT-QUEVILLY, France (Interstat) — Rouen rallied from an early deficit to defeat Concarneau 2-1 on Thursday afternoon in a French National 1 match at Stade Robert Diochon, completing a regular-season series sweep of its Breton opponent.

The visitors from Concarneau struck almost immediately, with Youssouf Soukouna finding the net in just the fourth minute to stun the home crowd. The early goal set a tense tone for the match, which saw five yellow cards issued by the officiating crew. Concarneau’s Loïc Goujon received the first booking in the eighth minute.

Rouen, which had been projected as a significant favorite by statistical models before the match, struggled to break down a disciplined Concarneau side for much of the first half. The momentum shifted decisively after the break. Ismaïl Bouneb leveled the score for the home side in the 55th minute, converting a critical chance to reignite the contest.

The equalizer galvanized Rouen, which needed only seven more minutes to complete the turnaround. Théo Pionnier scored what proved to be the decisive goal in the 62nd minute, sending the home supporters into a frenzy. The frantic period following the goal saw two quick yellow cards, shown to Concarneau’s Joseph Atangana in the 63rd minute and Rouen’s Junior Ndiaye in the 67th.

Concarneau pressed for a second equalizer in the closing stages but was unable to penetrate the Rouen defense a second time. A final yellow card was issued to Concarneau’s Aeron Zinga in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time as the visitors’ frustrations mounted.

The result continued a pattern of closely contested matches between the two sides this season. They played to a scoreless draw in Concarneau on Nov. 21, 2025, but Rouen had secured a 3-1 victory in the earlier meeting on Sept. 5, 2025. Thursday’s win gave Rouen the two-game series sweep in the league campaign.

In the broader National 1 standings, the victory provided a boost for Rouen’s campaign. The club now holds a record of 14 wins, 11 losses and 11 draws in the competition. The loss leaves Concarneau with a record of 7 wins, 5 losses and 8 draws in league play. The teams are scheduled to meet for a third time this season on April 17, 2026, in Concarneau.

Rouen’s schedule does not get easier, with a quick turnaround for a road match against La Berrichonne de Châteauroux slated for Friday. Concarneau will look to rebound at home against FC Versailles 78 on Feb. 20.

The match outcome defied the goal projection from Interstat’s simulator, which had predicted a 1-1 draw. However, it validated the system’s assessment of Rouen as the pregame favorite, with the club given a 68.90 percent probability to win based on its ELO rating.
