Preview: Cremonese U20 vs. Hellas Verona U20

CREMONA, Italy (Interstat) — A crucial mid-table clash in Italy’s top youth league is set for Sunday as Cremonese U20 hosts Hellas Verona U20 in Campionato Primavera 1 action.

Both sides seek a return to winning ways after disappointing results last Monday. Cremonese (8-10-8) is coming off a 3-0 road loss to Torino U20, which snapped a modest two-match unbeaten run. Hellas Verona (5-9-12) earned a point in a 1-1 home draw with Lazio U20 but remains near the bottom of the table.

The head-to-head history suggests a tight contest. The teams played to a 1-1 draw in Verona last October. Interstat’s game simulator projects another 1-1 deadlock for this matchup.

Recent form, however, reveals defensive struggles for the visitors. Hellas Verona has conceded 12 goals in its last four matches, including a 7-0 thrashing at Sassuolo U20 on March 14. Its only win in the last nine league games was a 3-1 victory over Frosinone U20 on March 8, highlighting a season of inconsistency that also featured a 4-1 win over Milan U20.

Cremonese has been more resilient at home, with notable results including a 2-0 win over Milan U20 and a 2-1 victory against Cagliari U20 in recent weeks. However, consistency has been elusive, with the team alternating results frequently.

Key players for Cremonese will need to exploit Verona’s leaky defense, while the visitors will rely on the attacking spark shown in their highs this season to trouble a Cremonese backline that has kept only one clean sheet in its last five outings.

The match carries significant weight for the final standings. With four games remaining for each side after Sunday, points are critical for securing placement ahead of the season’s conclusion next month.

Following this match, Cremonese will travel to face Parma U20 on April 25. Hellas Verona’s next fixture is a trip to Lecce U20 on April 26.

Kickoff is scheduled for 3 p.m. local time (1300 GMT) at Cremonese’s training ground stadium.
