Uzbek Side Stuns Sharjah With Late Winner in AFC Champions League
SHARJAH, United Arab Emirates (Interstat) — PFK Nasaf upset host Sharjah 2-1 on Monday in AFC Champions League play, defying heavy pregame odds with a dramatic late winner.
Sharjah defender Khaled Al Dhanhani opened the scoring in the 30th minute at Sharjah Stadium. The home side held the lead until the 87th minute, when substitute Diyorbek Abdunazarov equalized for the Uzbek visitors. Just three minutes later, another Nasaf substitute, Murodbek Rahmatov, assisted Caio Fernandes for the decisive goal.
The result marked a stunning reversal from pregame projections, which heavily favored Sharjah. PFK Nasaf begins its group stage campaign with a win, while Sharjah starts with a loss.
