SHANGHAI (Feb. 10, 2026) (Interstat) — FC Machida Zelvia opened its AFC Champions League campaign with a stunning 2-0 road victory over Shanghai Shenhua on Tuesday at Shanghai Stadium. Substitute Yūki Sōma scored both goals, including an 88th-minute strike to seal the win.

The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored the hosts. Shenhua, which received yellow cards to Jin Shunkai and Makhtar Gueye, failed to score. Gueye and Jin each recorded an assist for Machida Zelvia.

The victory gives Machida Zelvia a winning start in group play, while Shanghai Shenhua begins the tournament with a loss. Both clubs see their overall season records mirror the result.
