Wigan Athletic vs AFC Wimbledon

AP Sports Preview

LONDON (Interstat) — Wigan Athletic hosts AFC Wimbledon on Saturday, April 25, in a League One clash at the DW Stadium, with both sides desperate to reverse troubling form as the season enters its final weeks.

Wigan (10th in the table) enters on a four-match unbeaten run but has drawn its last two, most recently a scoreless stalemate at Port Vale on Sunday. The Latics’ last victory came April 11, a 2-1 win at Mansfield Town, and their home record remains inconsistent. However, they defeated AFC Wimbledon 2-1 on Nov. 22 in the reverse fixture and hold a recent head-to-head advantage.

AFC Wimbledon arrives in dire straits. The visitors have lost eight of their last nine matches, including a 3-1 defeat at Plymouth Argyle on April 18. The slump includes four consecutive shutout losses — 1-0 at Burton Albion, 3-0 at Luton Town and 1-0 at Lincoln City in early April, followed by a 3-0 defeat at Stockport County on March 28. Their lone bright spot in that stretch was a 4-1 win at Blackpool on March 11. Offensive struggles have plagued the side, which has managed only two goals in its last eight outings.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 1-1 draw.

Following this match, Wigan travels to Stevenage on May 2. AFC Wimbledon hosts Hfield Town on the same date.
