Barnsley vs Bradford City
BARNSLEY, England (Interstat) — A dramatic stoppage-time equalizer from substitute Leo Farrell salvaged a 2-2 draw for Barnsley against Bradford City in a contentious League One match at Oakwell Stadium on Saturday, April 18, 2026.
The match was fundamentally altered in the eighth minute when Bradford City’s Vimal Yoganathan was shown a straight red card, forcing the visitors to play with 10 men for the vast majority of the contest. Despite the numerical disadvantage, Bradford City displayed resilience and organization to twice take the lead.
The deadlock was broken five minutes into the second half. In the 50th minute, Bradford City defender Eoghan O’Connell found the net to give the short-handed visitors a surprising 1-0 advantage.
Barnsley, pressured to break down a compact defense, turned to its bench. The move paid off in the 73rd minute when another substitute, Nick Powell, scored to level the match at 1-1.
The momentum appeared to swing decisively back to Bradford City just nine minutes later. In the 82nd minute, defender Marc Roberts scored, restoring the visitors’ lead at 2-1 and putting Barnsley on the brink of a disappointing home defeat.
As the match entered deep stoppage time, Barnsley secured a share of the points. In the sixth added minute, Farrell, a forward who had also entered as a substitute, scored the decisive equalizer to make it 2-2, triggering celebrations among the home supporters.
The physical, tense affair featured five yellow cards. Will Swan of Bradford City was booked in the 33rd minute, followed by teammates Ibou Touray (55th minute), Jenson Metcalfe (65th minute) and Jonathan Bland (71st minute). Barnsley’s Reyes Cleary received a yellow in the 76th minute.
The result leaves both teams with identical overall records of 15 wins, 15 losses and 12 draws across all competitions this season. In League One play, Bradford City now stands at 20 wins, 13 losses and 9 draws, while Barnsley’s league record moves to 13 wins, 14 losses and 11 draws.
The draw extends a trend in the recent series between the clubs, following a 2-2 result in the reverse fixture on Oct. 18, 2025.
Bradford City, which had won two of its last three matches entering the game, next hosts Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday. Barnsley, which was coming off a win and a draw in its previous two outings, travels to face Stevenage, also on Tuesday.
The final score defied the pre-match projections from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted a 1-1 draw, while its ELO system gave Barnsley a 52.9% probability of victory.
