Bradford City vs Stevenage
BRADFORD, England (Interstat) — A second-half goal from substitute Daniel Kemp lifted Stevenage to a 1-0 victory over Bradford City in a League One match at University of Bradford Stadium on Saturday.
The result, decided by a moment of quality in the 61st minute, tightened the race in the league standings as the season enters its final weeks. Stevenage improved its League One record to 19 wins, 12 losses and 10 draws. Bradford City now stands at 20 wins, 13 losses and seven draws.
The match defied pregame projections. Statistical models had heavily favored the home side, with one system giving Bradford City a 68.1 percent probability to win and another simulating a 1-1 draw.
The first hour was a tense, physical affair with few clear chances, as both sides struggled to impose their attacking will. The deadlock was broken just past the hour mark by Stevenage’s Kemp, who had been introduced as a substitute. Defender Curtis Tilt provided the assist, sending a pass that Kemp finished to stun the home crowd.
The goal sparked a flurry of disciplinary action from the referee. Just three minutes after the score, both the goal-scorer Kemp and the provider Tilt were shown yellow cards, along with Bradford City’s Dan Sweeney, as tempers flared. Stevenage substitute Charlie Goode also received a yellow card in the 73rd minute, and Ibou Touray was booked in stoppage time as the visitors worked to secure the result.
Bradford City pressed for an equalizer but was unable to break down a resolute Stevenage defense, which recorded its third clean sheet in the last four matches across all competitions. The Bantams’ attack, which had scored in each of its previous five league games, was kept off the scoresheet.
The victory continued a strong recent run for Stevenage, which has now won four of its last five matches in all competitions. It also marked a measure of revenge for the earlier meeting this season, a 1-1 draw at Stevenage’s home ground in October.
Stevenage next travels to face Bolton Wanderers on Tuesday. Bradford City will look to rebound on April 18 with a trip to Barnsley.
