NORTHAMPTON, England (Feb. 24, 2026) (Interstat) — Port Vale opened its League One season with a 1-0 road victory over Northampton Town on Tuesday at Sixfields Stadium, defying pre-game projections.

The only goal came deep into first-half stoppage time. Midfielder Jack Burroughs assisted substitute Jayden Stockley, who scored in the 45th+8 minute to break the deadlock. Burroughs also received a yellow card in the 28th minute.

The result was an upset, as statistical models heavily favored Northampton Town. Port Vale begins its league campaign with a win, while Northampton starts with a loss.
