OFI vs Atromitos

HERAKLION, Greece (Interstat) — In a stunning opening match of the Greek Super League 1 season that defied all statistical projections, visiting Atromitos rode a wave of impactful substitutions to a decisive 3-1 victory over OFI on Saturday at Pankritio Stadio.

The match, which kicked off the 2025-26 domestic campaign, was forecast to be a comfortable win for the home side. Data from Interstat gave OFI an 88 percent probability of victory, with their game simulator predicting a 1-1 draw. Instead, Atromitos delivered a commanding performance, with their bench providing all three goals and two assists to secure the three points.

The game’s tempo was set early when Atromitos’ Peter Michorl was shown a yellow card in just the 3rd minute. Despite the early caution for his team, it was Atromitos who struck first. In the 15th minute, forward Eddy Salcedo Mora found the net, assisted by Michorl, giving the visitors a surprising early lead.

OFI’s defense was breached again before halftime. In the 34th minute, another Atromitos substitute made an immediate impact as Denzhel Jubitana doubled the visitors’ advantage. The goal sent the teams into the break with Atromitos holding a 2-0 lead, a scoreline few had anticipated.

The second half saw OFI attempting to mount a comeback, but their efforts were hampered by disciplinary issues. Defender Nikos Marinakis received a yellow card in the 50th minute, and the team struggled to break down a resolute Atromitos defense.

Any lingering hopes of an OFI revival were effectively extinguished in the 71st minute. Athanasios Karamanis, who had entered the match as a substitute, scored Atromitos’ third goal, assisted by forward Thiago Nuss, who was later booked in the 81st minute. Karamanis’s contribution was not limited to scoring, as he also recorded an assist, cementing his status as the most influential player on the pitch.

The match grew increasingly fractious as it wound down, with Karamanis also receiving a yellow card in the 83rd minute for his involvement in a scuffle.

OFI managed a consolation goal deep into stoppage time. In the 94th minute, Ognjen Ožegović, another substitute, found the back of the net for the home side, with the assist credited to Marinakis. The goal did little to change the outcome, serving only to slightly narrow the final margin.

The result sees both teams open their Super League 1 accounts, with Atromitos securing a win and OFI taking a loss in the first official match of the season for both clubs. The comprehensive nature of the victory, driven by a dominant bench performance, will provide a significant morale boost for Atromitos, while OFI will be left to analyze a performance that fell dramatically short of pre-game expectations.
