LIMA, Peru (Interstat) — Alianza Lima and Melgar played to a 2-2 draw on Friday in the Peruvian Primera División after a stoppage-time equalizer from defender Renzo Garcés. Playing at Estadio Alejandro Villanueva, Melgar took the lead twice. Bernardo Cuesta opened the scoring in the 33rd minute and later assisted a 72nd-minute goal by Matías Lazo. Alianza Lima answered each time, with Paolo Guerrero leveling before halftime and Garcés heading in the dramatic late goal. Both teams begin their league campaigns with a draw. The result defied pregame projections that heavily favored the home side.
