AREQUIPA, Peru (Interstat) — Melgar opened its Primera División season with a 2-0 victory over Sport Huancayo on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025, at Estadio de la Universidad Nacional San Agustín. Defender Alec Deneumostier led the hosts with a goal and an assist. Forward Bernardo Cuesta opened the scoring in the 36th minute before Deneumostier added a second-half goal in the 54th. The match was disrupted by a red card shown to Sport Huancayo’s Hugo Ángeles in the 22nd minute.
