Ipswich Town FC vs QPR

IPSWICH, England (Interstat) — Ipswich Town hosts Queens Park Rangers on Saturday in a Championship clash that could have significant implications for both clubs as the season enters its final stretch.

The match at Portman Road on May 2 features two sides with contrasting recent form. Ipswich enters with momentum after a 2-1 victory at Charlton Athletic on April 22, improving its record to four wins in its last five league outings. The Tractor Boys have been particularly strong at home, where they have not lost since late February and have outscored opponents 10-3 during that span.

QPR, meanwhile, is staggering. The Hoops have lost three straight — including a 3-2 defeat at home to Derby County on April 25 — and have managed only one win in their last eight matches, a 6-1 thrashing of Portsmouth on March 21. Their away form has been especially poor, with five losses in six road games since mid-February.

The head-to-head history favors Ipswich. In their most recent meeting Nov. 1, Ipswich thrashed QPR 4-1 at Loftus Road. The Tractor Boys have won three of the last four encounters overall, with the lone QPR victory coming in a 3-2 decision in March 2025.

Ipswich’s attack has been fueled by a balanced scoring attack. Midfielder Conor Chaplin and striker George Hirst have combined for 22 goals this season, while the club’s pressing style has forced turnovers that led to 14 goals off counterattacks. Defensively, Ipswich has been stingy, allowing just 0.9 goals per game across its last 10 matches.

QPR’s struggles have been defensive. The Hoops have conceded 14 goals in their past five games, a stark contrast to their March outburst against Portsmouth. Manager Martí Cifuentes has shuffled his back line in search of stability, but injuries to key defenders have hampered consistency. Attacking midfielder Ilias Chair remains QPR’s most dangerous weapon, with six goals and four assists, but service to him has been inconsistent.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 2-1 Ipswich victory, a result that would extend QPR’s losing streak to four and keep Ipswich in contention for an automatic promotion spot. A loss for the Hoops could leave them three points above the relegation zone with two matches remaining.

Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. local time. Ipswich will be without defender Luke Woolfenden (hamstring), while QPR midfielder Sam Field (ankle) is doubtful.
