Derby County FC vs Blackburn Rovers FC

DERBY, England (Interstat) — Derby County delivered a commanding second-half performance to defeat Blackburn Rovers 3-1 in the English Football League Championship on Saturday at Pride Park Stadium, completing a season sweep of their rivals.

The match, a physical affair that produced seven yellow cards, turned decisively in Derby’s favor after the interval, overturning a halftime deficit and defying a pregame projection from Interstat that had forecast a 1-1 draw. The data firm’s ELO rating system had given Derby a 77.1 percent probability to win.

Blackburn’s Hayden Carter broke a tense deadlock in first-half stoppage time, scoring in the 45th plus first minute to give the visitors an advantage heading into the break. The goal came amid a flurry of early bookings, with Adam Forshaw and Samuel Szmodics shown yellow cards in the 36th minute, followed by Lewis Travis of Blackburn in the 45th.

Any momentum for Rovers was quickly checked after the restart. Derby emerged with renewed purpose and leveled the score in the 55th minute. Forward Ben Brereton Díaz, noted as a key performer, found the net for the equalizer, assisted by midfielder Bobby Clark, who was also highlighted for his role.

The Rams then seized control. Defender Matt Clarke put the home side ahead in the 74th minute, heading in from a set-piece to make it 2-1. The outcome was put beyond doubt eight minutes later when striker Rhian Brewster added a third goal for Derby in the 82nd minute, securing the three points.

The match grew increasingly fractious as Derby pulled away, with four second-half cautions issued, including one to Blackburn’s goalscorer Carter in the 79th minute.

The victory improves Derby County’s record in the Championship to 14 wins, 12 losses and seven draws this season. Across all competitions, they hold an identical 14-12-7 mark. The loss leaves Blackburn Rovers at 9-16-7 both in the league and overall.

This result marks Derby’s second win over Blackburn this campaign, following a 2-1 away victory on Nov. 8, 2025. It provides a positive response for Derby after a 4-2 loss at Hull City in midweek. For Blackburn, the defeat extends a difficult run of form, coming just four days after a 2-1 home loss to Bristol City.

Derby County will look to build on this result when they host Sheffield Wednesday next Saturday. Blackburn Rovers, seeking to halt their slide, return to Ewood Park to face Portsmouth on the same day.
