SAMARINDA, Indonesia (Interstat) — Borneo began its Liga 1 campaign with a commanding 3-1 win over Arema on Thursday at Stadion Segiri.

Defender Caxambu Westherley opened the scoring in the seventh minute. Midfielder Juan Ruiz then netted a first-half brace, scoring in the 26th and 42nd minutes to give the hosts a commanding lead. Arema’s Dalberto scored a consolation goal in the 64th minute.

The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, which had simulated a 1-1 draw. Its ELO system, however, gave Borneo a 79.2% probability to win.

Borneo starts the season 1-0, while Arema opens at 0-1. Four yellow cards were issued in the match, three after the 79th minute.
