Sunderland hosts Manchester United in Premier League rematch

SUNDERLAND, England (Interstat) — Sunderland and Manchester United meet Saturday at the Stadium of Light in a Premier League clash with significant implications for both clubs’ positions in the standings. Kickoff is 3 p.m. local time.

The match marks a rematch of the April 25 fixture, when Sunderland defeated Manchester United 2-1 at home. That result extended Sunderland’s recent dominance in the head-to-head series: the Black Cats have won two of the last three meetings, including a 2-1 victory over United on April 25 and a 1-0 defeat at Old Trafford on Oct. 4, 2025.

Manchester United enters the match following a 3-2 win over Liverpool on May 3, rallying from a 2-1 deficit with two second-half goals. The victory snapped a two-game winless streak for United, which had drawn 1-1 at Arsenal on April 26 and lost 2-1 at home to Brentford on April 27. United’s form has been inconsistent: the club is 4-2-4 in its last 10 Premier League matches, including defeats to Newcastle (2-1), Leeds (2-1) and Sunderland.

Sunderland, meanwhile, comes off a 1-1 draw at Wolverhampton on May 2. The result followed a 5-0 loss at Nottingham Forest on April 24 and a 4-3 defeat at Aston Villa on April 19. Sunderland has shown resilience at home but has struggled for consistency: the Black Cats are 3-2-5 in their last 10 league matches, with victories over Tottenham (1-0), Newcastle (2-1) and Manchester United.

Interstat’s game simulator projects a 2-1 victory for Manchester United.

Sunderland is 8th in the Premier League table with 48 points entering the weekend. Manchester United is 5th with 58 points, four points behind fourth-place Arsenal with three matches remaining in the season.

After Saturday, Manchester United travels to Nottingham Forest on May 17 and Brighton on May 24. Sunderland visits Everton on May 17 and hosts Chelsea on May 24.
