CHESTERFIELD, England (Interstat) — Chesterfield and visiting Tranmere Rovers opened the English League Two season with a 1-1 draw on Saturday at SMH Group Stadium.

The match defied statistical projections that heavily favored the home side. Defender Tom Naylor put Chesterfield ahead in the 44th minute, but Tranmere substitute Sam Finley leveled the score just nine minutes after halftime. Finley also assisted on Naylor’s opener.

The contest was a physical affair, featuring seven yellow cards. Both teams remain unbeaten with identical records of one draw and no wins to start the league campaign. The result left each side with a single point from the fixture.
