SALFORD, England (Interstat) — Salford City began its League Two campaign with a 2-0 victory over Barnet on Saturday at The Peninsula Stadium. The home side scored twice late in the first half to secure the win. Rosaire Longelo-Mbule opened the scoring in the 39th minute before Matt Butcher doubled the lead just before halftime in the 45th. The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, which had simulated a 1-1 draw. Barnet’s Haji Mnoga received a yellow card in the 28th minute, and Salford’s Jorge Grant was booked in second-half stoppage time. With the win, Salford City starts the season with a perfect record while Barnet seeks its first points.
