Substitutes Spark Oldham Athletic to Comeback Win Over Walsall

WALSALL, England (Interstat) — Substitute Joe Garner sparked a comeback with a goal and an assist Monday as Oldham Athletic defeated Walsall 2-1 in a League Two match at Pallet-Track Bescot Stadium.

Garner opened the scoring for the visitors in the 15th minute. Walsall’s Daniel Kanu equalized in the 50th, but Garner assisted fellow substitute Kian Harratt for the winner in the sixth minute of second-half stoppage time.

The result defied pre-match projections that heavily favored the home side. Oldham Athletic begins its league campaign with a win, while Walsall starts with a loss. Four yellow cards were issued in a chippy contest.
