Guastatoya vs Xelaju

GUATEMALA CITY (Interstat) — A struggling Guastatoya side will look to build on a rare victory when it hosts Xelaju in a Liga Nacional match on Sunday.

The matchup at the Estadio David Cordón Hichos pits two clubs at the bottom of the table. Guastatoya (2-11-4) sits in last place, while Xelaju (6-9-4) is just a few positions above.

Guastatoya is coming off a 1-0 road win against Malacateco on Oct. 19, one of its few bright spots in a difficult season. Xelaju, meanwhile, has lost three straight, including a 2-1 home defeat to Mixco on Oct. 17.

The last meeting between these clubs was a lopsided affair, with Xelaju routing Guastatoya 5-0 on Aug. 17. Xelaju’s attack has shown flashes of potency this season, including a 3-0 win over powerhouse Comunicaciones in September, but has been inconsistent.

Despite their recent head-to-head dominance, Xelaju’s current form and Guastatoya’s momentum from its last outing suggest a potentially tighter contest. The Interstat game simulator projects a 1-1 draw.

Following this match, Xelaju will host Municipal on Nov. 2, while Guastatoya will travel to face Mictlan.
