Duisburg Topples Mannheim in 3. Liga Season Opener

DUISBURG, Germany (Interstat) — MSV Duisburg opened its 3. Liga campaign with a 2-1 victory over Waldhof Mannheim on Friday at Schauinsland-Reisen-Arena. Defender Joshua Bitter was instrumental in the win, scoring the decisive goal and adding an assist. Connor Noß gave the hosts an early lead in the 20th minute before Bitter extended it in the 69th. Waldhof Mannheim’s Terrence Boyd scored a late consolation goal in the 85th minute. The result defied the pregame projection from Interstat, which had simulated a 1-1 draw despite heavily favoring Duisburg to win. The home side begins the season 1-0-0, while Mannheim starts 0-1-0.
