Substitute El Kaabi Scores Twice as Morocco Dominates Zambia in Cup of Nations Opener
RABAT, Morocco (Interstat) — Substitute Ayoub El Kaabi scored two goals to lead Morocco to a 3-0 victory over Zambia in an Africa Cup of Nations match Monday at Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah.
El Kaabi opened the scoring with a header in the ninth minute. Brahim Díaz, also a substitute, doubled the lead in the 27th before El Kaabi netted his second with a left-footed strike just before halftime.
The result defied pre-match projections that favored Zambia. Morocco improved its tournament record to 1-0, while Zambia fell to 0-1. The match featured six yellow cards, including two for Zambia’s David Hamansenya, who was sent off in the 85th minute.
