South Africa Edges Angola in Africa Cup of Nations Group Stage Opener

MARRAKESH, Morocco (Dec. 22, 2025) (Interstat) — South Africa opened its Africa Cup of Nations campaign with a 2-1 victory over Angola on Monday at Grand Stade de Marrakech.

Oswin Appollis gave South Africa the lead in the 21st minute. Angola’s Show equalized in the 35th, but South Africa’s Lyle Foster scored the decisive goal in the 79th minute.

The match featured four yellow cards. Angola’s Tó Carneiro was booked in the 32nd minute, followed by South Africa’s Aubrey Modiba in the 41st and Sphephelo Sithole in first-half stoppage time. Angola’s Randy Nteka received a late caution in the 88th.
