Egypt Edges Zimbabwe in Africa Cup of Nations Opener
AGADIR, Morocco (Interstat) — Egypt rallied to defeat Zimbabwe 2-1 on Monday in an Africa Cup of Nations group stage match at Grand Stade d’Agadir.
Zimbabwe substitute Prince Dube opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Egypt equalized through Omar Marmoush in the 63rd minute before captain Mohamed Salah netted the stoppage-time winner. The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, which had forecast a Zimbabwe victory.
Egypt improved to 1-0 in the tournament, while Zimbabwe fell to 0-1. Both teams continue group play Friday, with Egypt facing South Africa and Zimbabwe meeting Angola.
