Sonderjyske vs Viborg

HADERSLEV, Denmark (Interstat) — Sonderjyske and Viborg played to a 2-2 draw in a dramatic Danish Superliga match Friday at Sydbank Park that saw a two-goal lead erased by a pair of second-half substitutes.

The result leaves both clubs with identical records to open the new season: zero wins, zero losses, and one draw across all competitions.

Sonderjyske’s Mads Agger opened the scoring just three minutes into the contest, giving the home side an early advantage. The forward then doubled the lead for Sonderjyske in the 53rd minute, seemingly putting the game out of reach.

Viborg, however, mounted a stunning comeback fueled by its bench. Substitute Bilal Brahimi cut the deficit in half just two minutes later, scoring in the 55th minute to shift the momentum.

The comeback was completed in the 86th minute by fellow substitute Thomas Jørgensen, who netted the equalizer. Jørgensen was instrumental in the rally, factoring in both of Viborg’s goals by also providing an assist on Brahimi’s strike.

Agger’s two-goal performance for Sonderjyske was aided by an assist from defender Daníel Leó Grétarsson. For Viborg, forward Matthew Hoppe recorded an assist on one of the team’s goals.

The match grew increasingly tense as Viborg pressed for the tying goal, resulting in three yellow cards in a nine-minute span. Hoppe was cautioned in the 71st minute, followed by the goal-scorer Jørgensen in the 74th minute. Sonderjyske’s Grétarsson received a yellow in the 79th minute.

The final score defied the pregame projection from Interstat, whose game simulator had predicted a 1-1 draw. The same analytics system had given Sonderjyske a slight edge to win the match, projecting the home side with a 52.20 percent probability of victory.

The draw sees both teams earn their first point of the new Superliga campaign.
