VERVIERS, Belgium (Interstat) — Papa Bacary Sy scored a goal and added an assist Saturday to lead Stade Vervietois to a 2-1 victory over Flenu in Belgian Division 2 football at Stade de Bielmont.

Sy opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Marc Lemperez doubled the home side’s lead in the 35th, assisted by Sy. Flenu’s lone reply came from substitute Baptiste Ulens in the second half. The result defied a pre-match projection that favored a draw.

Stade Vervietois improved its division record to 16 wins, seven losses and four draws. Flenu fell to 17-8-5. The match featured seven yellow cards, including one for Sy in the 60th minute.
