DES MOINES, Iowa (Interstat) — Claire Emmerich scored the decisive goal to lift the Drake women’s soccer team to a 1-0 victory over Southern Illinois on Thursday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved to 7-5-1 overall, while the Salukis fell to 9-5-3.

Emmerich, a midfielder, netted the game’s only score. She was assisted on the play by teammates Eve Blakey and Angela Gutierrez. The result defied a pregame statistical projection that had forecast a 1-1 draw. An announced crowd of 192 attended the NCAA women’s match.
