ZAPOPAN, Mexico (Interstat) — Blackburn Rovers opened its Lancashire Senior Cup campaign with a 2-0 victory over Preston North End on Saturday at Estadio Akron.

Midfielder Armando González opened the scoring in the 17th minute. Daniel Aguirre, also a midfielder, doubled the lead in first-half stoppage time, scoring in the 45th+5 minute. Both second-half goals were assisted by substitutes Ari Contreras and Alexei Domínguez, respectively. Contreras and Domínguez each later received yellow cards.

The result defied a pregame projection from Interstat, whose simulator had forecast a 2-2 draw. Blackburn’s season record across all competitions improved to 1-0, while Preston North End fell to 0-1.
