KAZAN (Interstat) — Asier Córdoba scored in the 70th minute to give Smena Kazan a 1-0 victory over Orenburg II on Saturday in the FFRT Cup at Central’nyj stadion Kazan’. The goal was the only score of the match as Smena Kazan improved to 1-0 in the competition and across all competitions. Orenburg II fell to 0-3 in both the tournament and overall, extending its winless start. Córdoba’s strike came from a pass that split the defense, leaving him one-on-one with the goalkeeper. The home team controlled possession and created several chances before breaking the deadlock. Orenburg II entered the game after a 4-0 defeat to Spartak Tuymazy on Friday and struggled to mount a serious threat. Smena Kazan’s defense recorded a clean sheet, allowing no goals. The victory marked Smena Kazan’s first win of the season. Smena Kazan’s next contests include a home match against Spartak Tuymazy on Sunday, a meeting with Zenit Penza later that day, and a May 8 fixture against Nefis Kazan. Orenburg II faces Ufa II later Saturday in the same cup competition.
